About

Who I am:

Hello. My name is Rachel Elizabeth. I am a copyeditor, researcher and educator. I have a long standing passion for literature and history from a young age, when I began writing short stories about far-away adventures and circling grammatical errors in newspapers. In 2018, I graduated from Queen’s University with a bachelors of arts with distinction in English Language and Literatures. My areas of interest include Romantic women writers, war poetry, children’s literature, and historical fiction. However, I am also educated in pre-medieval literature and mythologies (Irish, English and Norse), environmental criticism, travel literature, war literature of the 20th century, and the Romantic era more broadly. From there, I went on to complete my master’s in Public History at Carleton University in 2021, thinking about how we learn history through contemporary literature. My future goals are to complete a PhD in Literature and teach my passion to generations of new students.

My passion for teaching began long ago when I was twelve years old and began creating lesson plans for the local pony club. My first job included teaching lessons at a local camp. I was also a teaching assistant (TA) for the history department at Carleton University for two and a half years during my masters. Managing tutorial groups twice weekly, I developed a keen interest for working one-on-one with students to improve their reading comprehension and writing skills so they could focus more on engaging with the course content and less on struggling through readings and essays.

During my undergraduate degree at Queen’s University, I also completed editing courses where I specialized in academic writing and fictional prose.

My Mission:

For now, my goal is to provide writers with a keen eye that can make your work say what you want. As writers, we often get so caught up in the excitement (or deadlines) that our words carry away our thoughts without us even noticing. My mission is to work with you to make those last edits your final edits.

I also understand that it can be intimidating to have someone go over your written works. As such, most editing work can be done via email. However, I also offer virtual meetings for those who prefer to go over edits, need a little extra help getting that sentence just right, or for tutoring.

Thank you. I look forward to helping you create your own literary work of art!
